-Wish You Were Here –
Installation âWish You Were Hereâ City Center DC, Painting Series
This exhibit is intended to put an emphasis on, âMental Health and Addictionâ.
Iâm speaking out through my work because I feel, âwe are not talking enough, not doing enough, and not
informing people enough,â about ADDICTION and mental health in general.
My intent for this exhibit is to help inform and change how we think about the words âAddictionâ and
âAddictâ, and how we treat anyone with mental health illness.

My concept is to have (10) â60 x â70 paintings of the City Center area in Washington, DC. In each of my
paintings, you will find the words written âWish You Were Hereâ These words, from the Pink Floyd song,
is about Syd Barrett, the original front man and chief songwriter of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett left the group
in 1968, after his mental and physical health and reliability, deteriorated as a result of heavy drug use.
Each painting is dedicated to a person whose life was impacted by a struggle with addiction, whose stories are posted with the artwork.
Why did I choose the City Center in DC, as my subject? Whenever I felt sad, I would walk to the City
Center in DC. Just by walking through this area, I became happier. It was always so much fun for me to
go there. I was always surprised by the different decorations they used during the different seasons.
It was so beautiful and so dreamy for me as it was always a happy place. We all need to find our happy
place !
Brush Strokes Gallery’s March Exhibit will be displayed Thursday, February 29, through Sunday, March 31.
All are invited to the First Friday opening reception on March 1 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, where guests will have an opportunity to meet and chat with Medina.

Artist Medina Roberts at Red Studio Gallery in Crystal City, Arlington VA reflects on her paintings as she stands by her painting Pink World #2 from her Breast Cancer Series.
“I love my paintings, each of my paintings is like my child. Every one different and while I am happy to see them find a new home it is also sad as all paintings I create are different and I will never paint the same one ever again.

Artist Medina Roberts City Center, DC showcased in the “Exploring the World” Times Square Billboard Exhibition presented by The East Village Art Collection on April 21 through April 27, 2023.
“Medina, your work is truly captivating! Your expressive and abstract painting captures the world around us from a truly unique and vibrant perspective. The immense detail and intricate layers of paint you incorporate create a beautiful chaos that accentuates the strong brushstrokes and the progressive movement they carry across the canvas. Your artwork is a testament to the transformative power of art, as the composition varies in color and texture as your viewer’s eyes traverse upwards throughout the composition. Well done!”
